POSSIBILITIES-

There is the possibility that Charles was born in Malpas, Cheshire on the 28th. December, 1797 and his father was called Thomas and his mother Margaret.

William Huxley

William Huxley may have been baptised on the 6th. April, 1823, at the Church of St. Michael's, Toxteth Park.

William Huxley married Alice Lythgoe on the 20th. August, 1848. William and his father Charles Huxley are 'listed' as labourers, whilst, Alice's father Thomas' occupation is listed as a shipwright. Alice and William were living in Parr Street.

William and Alice Huxley are included on the 1851 census. They had a son called Thomas, who is one year old.

William and Alice were living at 6 Wellington Terrace, High Park Street, Toxteth Park on the 1861 census. They had six children living with them: 1) Thomas, aged 11, who was a scholar 2) Charles, aged 9, who was a scholar 3) William, aged 7, who was a scholar 4) Benjamin, aged 5, who was a scholar 5) Elizabeth, aged 3 6) Alice, aged 5 months.

William and Alice were living at 10 Wellington Terrace, Toxteth Park on the 1871 Census; William was aged 48 years and Alice was aged 41 years. William was a labourer, and Alice a laundress. A lady called Sheila from Somerset, and I, share this gentleman as our ancestor. It is her g.g.grandfather.

Thank-you also to Steve, from Australia, for sharing information with me.

William appears to have had a son, maybe circa. 1854, who was a ships carpenter, who retired around the time of the first world war, from the Cunard White Star Line.

William may have had these siblings:

Sarah, baptised at Church of St. Peter, Liverpool on the 27th. February, 1825.

Ann, baptised at Church of St. Michael, Toxteth on the 8th. July, 1827.

Benjamin Huxley

Benjamin Huxley was aged 21 years, when he got married to Mary Ellen Smith, on the 22nd. April, 1877; he was a ship smith. He was living at Wellington Terrace and she at 58 Upper Park Street. Mary Ellen Smith was aged 18 years, at the time of her marriage. They were married at St. John the Baptist Church, Toxteth Park, after Banns had been read. His father was William Huxley, who was a labourer, and her father was John Henry Smith, who was land sureveyor. The witnesses to the marriage were Charles Huxley (who signed using his mark), and Elizabeth Ann Huxley.

Benjamin Huxley is mentioned on the 1881 Census as living at 76 High Park Street, Toxteth, Lancashire. He was aged 24 years and his occupation was a Shipsmith B. Mary E. Huxley is mentioned as his sister, and should probably say wife. She was aged 22 years.

Benjamin and Mary are living with his brother Charles, and his family. Charles was a blacksmith, aged 29 years, and his birthplace was Liverpool. Charles' wife was called Ann, she was 27 years and her birthplace was Hull. They had children called: William, aged 7 years, Mary, aged 6 years, Benjamin, aged 4 years, and Margaret, aged 2years.

On the census, it also mentions that there was a niece called Annie and nephew called Charles. These would have been relatives of the head of the household ie. Charles. Were these children of Benjamin and Mary? Charles is later found on the 1901 census, so it appears he was their son.

Many thanks for the information from Sheila (a distant cousin of mine!).
